Wildlife Protection Advocates Embrace Alicia Washkevich as Their New Chief Operating Executive
Exciting news from Defenders of Wildlife! Alicia Washkevich, a seasoned leader with over two decades of experience spanning multiple sectors, has taken on the role of COO. Expect her to lead Defenders' operations and lend a crucial voice in shaping the organization's future, focusing on the mission to protect wildlife and their natural habitats.

Most recently, Washkevich was the COO for New Politics, a group dedicated to cultivating an army of democratic leaders. Her journey also includes stints at the Sierra Club, where she served as Deputy COO.
Ardently passionate about safeguarding wildlife and their habitats, Washkevich is thrilled to join Defenders of Wildlife as their COO. "This mission has always been near and dear to my heart," she shared. Aside from her non-profit tenure, Washkevich is a navy veteran and boasts a Master of Science in Applied Science from the Naval Postgraduate School and a Bachelor of Science in Oceanography from the United States Naval Academy. Eagerness for professional growth led her to complete the Women in Leadership certificate program at Cornell University in 2019.
