Worldwide Investors to Receive 'Golden Bayern-Thaler' Offering Soon
In the heart of Germany, the Free State of Bayern is set to launch a new investment coin, the Bayern Thaler, this fall. The gold coin, set to be unveiled in Munich, aims to attract global investors and tap into the growing demand for gold investments.
The Bayern Thaler, a modern take on historical talers, draws parallels with established investment coins such as the South African Krugerrand and the Canadian Maple Leaf. Michael Eubel, head of the precious metal business at BayernLB, has compared the gold Bayern Thaler to these renowned coins, positioning it as a Bavarian response to the market leaders.
The gold Bayern Thaler is expected to offer a high gold content, standardized sizes, and a design that remains unchanged over decades, characteristics typical of investment coins. The coin's front features the iconic Neuschwanstein Castle, a symbol of Bavarian heritage and a tourist attraction that draws millions each year.
The silver "Bayern Thaler," launched earlier this year, has already become a popular collector's item, with the Bavarian State Mint selling around 41,000 ounces since its launch in March. The silver version of the coin equates to approximately 1,300 kilograms of fine silver.
The Ministry of Finance in Munich is responsible for the launch of the golden Bayern Thaler, which is intended for private investors worldwide. The coin is expected to cater to value investors, according to CSU politician Katarina Amtmann, who has emphasised the coin's potential as a store of value.
This move by the Bavarian state fits into broader trends seen in Germany and Europe, where states or regions issue commemorative or investment coins reflecting their specific history and cultural identity. By issuing a new Bayern Thaler gold coin, the state is likely aiming to leverage its heritage appeal and the growing demand for gold investments, offering a legal tender gold coin that serves as both a collectible and a store of value.
